Biological Control of GWSS and Other CDFA Sustainable Pest Management Activities for Vineyards
11/12/24 I 3:30-4:30 pm
The CDFA’s Pierce’s Disease Control Program is charged with managing vineyard pests and diseases by containing spread, detection, rapid response, outreach, and research. In this presentation, Dr. David Morgan will discuss the sustainable components of each of these activities used to protect our state’s viticulture industry.

Dr. Morgan received his BS at Oxford Brookes University, and his MS and PhD in Applied Entomology from Imperial College in Great Britain. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California Riverside for five years before joining the CDFA in 2000.
Morgan is the CDFA’s leading expert in the field of Biological Control. Over the past 24 years he has been instrumental in the establishment and operation of state-operated biological control field station in Riverside County Kern County, and Los Angeles County. He manages over 40 staff focused on biological control of the Glassy-winged sharpshooter and Asian citrus psyllid. The biological control strategy of these plant disease vectors is one part of the sustainable pest management strategies used by the CDFA to minimize the impact of these invasive pests on California's agricultural production.
Dr. Morgan has authored more than sixty scientifically reviewed publications, book chapters, and articles. He reports the state's biological control activities at local, national, and international meetings, and provides scientific advice on a number of committees.
